1st Quarter Reflection

Jordan Loftin

One of the very first things I learned was the trend of elders caring more about politics in todays society. In 1972, for instance, age did not define how much people knew about politics. But in 2015, before AP gov, I did not know how to define a liberal or a conservative. One of my favorite assignments we had so far was when me and the girls of the class came up with our own government. Our government had an excellent bureaucracy when it came to teachers others how to defend, provide goods, and organize. We relied on cooperation more than domination. The boys group, however, had a very dominant government and we had a debate during a class period over how bad their government was. I had never read the preamble of the constitution until this year, and I found it fascinating how much the United States does not follow the "rules" all the time. Do we always have equality? Do we always have peace? Do we always provide financial support? No. I see within my current event posts that Donald Trump may not win the election, but he is doing what the people want. The people of the US want drama and entertainment, until it gets closer to the election. The most recent project on the constitution was the first time I had read the constitution. I now know that the phrase "advise and consent" within the constitution means the president is not able to pass a treaty without 2/3 of the senate approval. I did not know that the phrase "full faith and credit" meant that when a citizen has an Alabama driver's license, Tennessee cannot deny their license. Also, I learned how to propose an amendment and how to ratify the amendment. The most common way is through Congress proposing an amendment after getting consent from 2/3 vote of the House. After that, the state legislatures ratify the amendment by a vote of 3/4 of the states. Throughout this quarter I have learned a lot and have turned in all of my assignment on time. I expect to learn a lot more interesting things and look forward to it. Hopefully, senioritis will not get to me until the school year is over and I will continue to do all of my work. I feel like I need to improve on my stressing out before test, and that is my goal this quarter.
