Baseball History

David Denson, a baseball player for the Milwaukee Brewers made history this weekend being the first openly gay active player in baseball. He is 20 years old and has been keeping the secret inside of him for years. He felt he was not acting like himself, he considered quitting the sport. But after coming out, he has had full support from his teammates. No one believes he did this for the publicity, his teammates believe he did it so he could be his best self. I believe it was a very courageous decision for David, and he should not be ashamed of who he is.

Florida Hospital Leads to no Heart Surgery on Infants

St. Marys' Medical Center in Florida announced on Monday they are closing the opportunity down for young children to have open heart surgery. The program began in 2011 but ended after 9 babies had died and a 10th became paralyzed. Before this program was put to a stop, others recommended doctors not do heart surgeries on infants 6 months or younger, or to stop doing complex heart surgeries on all children. It breaks my heart that children so young have to have surgeries so complex.

Trump Beats Clinton in Polls

As of right now, Trump is the number one Republican in the polls nationally. the recent email scandal with Clinton has brought her down in the polls. She was using a private email, therefore no one can trace her activities. When people work for the government it is automatic that the government or the people should be able to see what they have been up to. Within this scandal, it seems that she has something to hide. There have been threats that Clinton could go to jail. Since July, Trump has gained 10 points on Clinton in the polls. He is now only 6 points behind Clinton, a very dramatic change and frightening change for Clinton. I think Trump is a funny and entertaining guy, but neither of these two candidates will win the election.

Isis Strikes Again

Early Thursday morning in Cairo, at least 29 people were wounded. Isis located a bomb in a car near the National Security Building in the northern suburb of Shubra al-Kheemag to payback those who executed 6 of their men in May. The driver parked the car and then fled the scene on a motorcycle. The bomb echoed for miles, waking up many of the residents. Buildings were destroyed and several cars were crushed. Egyptian authority claims these men are with the Islamist militant group, Anbar Beit al Maqdis, those who have sworn themselves to Isis. The group is based in Sinai, where there has been an abundance of attacks on police and military. Ironically, among the 29 wounded, 6 police officers were injured. Isis is trying to prove a point, prove their power, and it is heartbreaking that they feel violence is the answer.

Isis.. What's New

Isis has now blown up a 2,000-year-old temple in the historic ruins of Palmyra, Syria. Syria's director-general of antiques and museums, Maamoun Abulkarim, said sources told him on Sunday that members of Isis rigged the temple of Baalshamin with a huge amount of explosives.  There were questions on the date of the event, on the same day of the news coming out, some reported the temple seemed to have been blow up a month ago, and some reported it was blown up on Sunday. This report came less than a week after the Isis militants publicly beheaded Khaled al-As'ad, 82, the former general for antiques and museums in Palmyra. All I have to say is I just typed this current event with my mouth wide open. I am in shock. Beheading someone publicly and destroying something 2,000 years old, it turns my stomach to think how heartless people can be.

School Shooting in Savannah

Christopher Starks, a junior college student from metro Atlanta died in a hospital Thursday night after the shooting at Savannah State University. Thursday night there was a school lockdown and Friday morning school was delayed. A vigil, or prayer service, was scheduled on Friday after it came out that Christopher had passed away. The university police and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are handling the case, but no arrests have been made.

Phoenix Shootings

Somebody has shot four random moving cars on I-10 in Phoenix, Arizona in the last three days. Two of the shootings occurred at 11 am Saturday, one about 10:15 pm Saturday, and one at about 4:25 am Monday morning. A 13 year old girl suffered a cut in her right ear when the bullet pierced the windshield of the SUV. The rest of the bullets either hit the headlights or the windshield but left no harm to the other drivers. Some of the drivers did not notice the gun shot at first, they thought it was a loud noise from debris off the highway. I personally think this is super scary and weird. Who would randomly shoot at cars full of people they do not know?

Racism Won't Stop

Kelly Osbourne appeared on the show The View a few nights ago and it went down hill really fast. The women began a conversation on how wrong Donald Trump's conclusions about Mexicans were. He called them rapist and drug dealers.. A Latino from puerto rico who was sitting with him agreed that the people should do something about illegal immigrants but did not agree that all immigrants are bad. Kelly ignorantly responded, "who would clean his toilet?" Keep in mind she was sitting at a table debating on this topic with a Latino and two African American women who have been dealing with racism their whole life. After being called out for being racist, she refused to admit she was racist. She apologized for her comment but says she will not apologize about being racist because she is "not". No one ever claims to be racist. Many people agree racism will never go away, but I wish one day racism would not be an issue. I hope that one day the color of your skin will not matter.

Acidental Suicide

A 19-year-old boy, the day before starting community  college, killed himself accidentally while taking a selfie with a gun. The gun blast hit the boy, Deleon Alonso Smith, in the throat. Family members are shocked, including his cousin who was in the room next door when the gun went off. The cousin told the police officers that the two boys had found the gun earlier that day. The police are still investigating. My question is, why take a picture with a loaded gun? or even a gun at all? I am sincerely sorry for this family but I believe it could have been prevented.

Kim Davis Stands Firm on Same-Sex Marriage

In Rowan County, Kentucky, clerk Kim Davis was given a second chance. She was not going to be forced to issue same-sex marriage, all that was asked from her was to stand by and let the deputies issue the license. But Davis refused. Davis' lawyer told Judge David Bunning that his client would not let her deputies issue the marriage license. Early Thursday morning, Judge Bunning put Davis into custody because she refused a Supreme Court Order legalizing same-sex marriage. Judge Bunning said she will stay in jail until she obeys the ruling, but Davis will continue not believing in same-sex marriage because of her religious beliefs. I am a Christian myself, but I believe it does not effect me whether same-sex couples get married or not. I believe that if you love someone you should be able to be with them. Rumor has it that Davis is on her fourth marriage.. I guess she picks and chooses what religious beliefs to feel strongly about.

El Salvador Babies Switched at Birth

When Mercedes Casanella gave birth to her baby boy in in San Salvador hospital, she noticed he had lighter skin like the father. But she found it odd that when she was given the baby leaving the hospital, the babies skin was darker. Her confusion was correct. It was not her child. After many investigation involving prosecutors, doctors, police and DNA experts, three months later.. Casanella and her husband were reunited with their actual son. The same Monday night of the reunion, the infant boy they had accidentally taken home, was reunited with his family.

Turtle Breaks a Record

On a less serious note, there is a new record breaker in the Guinness World Records, Bertie the tortoise. Bertie beat a record that has not been challenged since 1977. During his run, Bertie reached the speed of 0.6 miles per hour. Both Bertie and the turtle he replaced, Charlie, live in the United Kingdon. Bertie is now spending time with his proud owner, Marco Calzini, he is speaking for the turtle when he says this is a dream come true. Bertie is now spending his days eating strawberries and with his girlfriend, Shelly.
Hand Sanitizer Risk

Six-year-old Nhaijah Russel swallowed three or four squirt of hand sanitzier one day at school, she said it tasted like strawberries. The problem with swallowing that much hand sanitizer is that it made a six-year-old child drunk. She appeared in the emergency room that day drunk and unable to talk. Nhaijah's blood-alcohol level was .179.. twice what is considered legally drunk for an ADULT.  Doctors watched her overnight for signs of brain trauma, since her drunkness caused her to fall and hit her head. Alcohol poisoning does not just cause you to be confused, but also vomiting and drowsiness. In sever cases, a child's breathing can stop. The doctor who dealt with this trauma, Dr. Gaylord Lopez, recommends that teachers keep hand sanitizer out of reach of children or he recommend using non alcoholic based products. I agree that teachers should just use sanitizing wipes or non alcoholic based products, because it keeps kids out of danger when no one is looking.

Taylor Swift Just Got Sued

DJ Got Fired

I guess that is what Taylor Swift's face looked like when DJ Mueller from Colorado during a meet and greet, "lifted her skirt with his hands and grabbed her butt." The accusations got out and DJ Mueller was fired from his job. After he was fired, he sued Taylor Swift and denied touching her inappropriately. He claims one of the staff behind the stage told him to "put his arms around her and his hands on her bottom." This blows my mind, I may agree with Mueller's side on this one. Although he should not have grabbed her inappropriately, Taylor does not seem offended in the picture and is smiling and her skirt does not seem to be messed up. Also, keep in mind he was with his girlfriend back stage meeting Taylor Swift, why would he grab her butt aggressively in front of his girlfriend? He lost his yearly salary of $150,000  because of this. (picture has not yet been submitted to CNN.)

Iranian Women's Soccer Captain

This is insane. The captain of the Iranian women's soccer team, Niloufar Ardalan, is missing the Asian cup because her husband took her passport. Her husband, Mahdi Toutounchi, is taking advantage of the Iranian law which allows him to deny his wife's ability to travel beyond the country's borders if her chooses. He chose to do so because he wants his wife to be home for their son's first day of school. Ardalan is downplaying the problems the incident is causing at home, but she says the Iranian government needs to make a change to the existing laws. Women should have the opportunity to represent their country. It is unreal how much women of the US take advantage of their rights, women around the world should have the same.

Little Boy Arrested For a Clock

Earlier in the week, a Texas high school student, Ahmed Mohamed, was arrested at his school for bringing a clock he made and was proud of. Since he is muslim, police falsely accused him of it being a bomb. Across the world he got encouragements, even invites to the White House from Obama. Google also said they had a reserved spot at their weekend science fair and MIT asked him to visit the campus. It is sad the kid had to go through this interrogation as if he was a terrorist, but I guess you could say good things came out of it. He has made the decision to transfer schools!!

Teenager Killed by Train in Eurotunnel Terminal in France

Numerous people fleeing conflicts and poverty in the Middle East and North Africa gravitate towards the French entrance to the Eurotunnel, hoping to find their way to the UK. The victim appeared to be 15-17 years old, and might have been a native of Sudan or Enitrea. The boy was hit around 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon and was found dead on the tracks. British news reports say this boy is the 11th person to have died in or near the tunnel trying to reach Britain since late June. I think this is scary and sad at the same time. Americans take advantage of where we are from, it hurts me that people are trying to flee their country and it scares me that they are so young when doing it.

Fetty Wap

On Saturday afternoon, in Fetty Wap's hometown Paterson, New Jersey, he was in a motorcycle accident. A day before his new album was released. After the wreck, Fetty was announced to be "responsive" after the accident. The doctors have been spending their time examining his possible fractures, and you can see in the picture above that a splint is seen securing the rapper's leg.  His family asked for privacy during this time but wanted everyone to know he is okay. Personally, I am a fan of some of his music and I hope his new album is successful.

Will the Olympics Change?

Organizers for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo have requested 5 new sports to be included in the competition: Baseball/Softball, Karate, Surfing, Skate Boarding, and Sport Climbing. It has been noted that the hosts of the games have permission to add or recommend new sports to the Games' schedule that are popular in the country. They are allowed to do so because it causes more sponsorship and greater interest. A final decision on what will be included in the 2020 olympics will be determined by the International Olympic Committee in August 2016. I think it would be a cool opportunity for those who play those sports, and I believe there will be more spectators if those sports are added.

Crazy Referee in Brazil

There was a crazy incident in Brazil during a lower-league soccer match this weekend, when a referee pulled out a gun when his temper raised. The referee, Gabriel Murta, was furious after getting rough treatment from one of the teams. Gabriel was kicked and slapped by the players form the team Amantes de Bola, and Murta felt they were questioning his control of the situation. Apparently, Murta was a policeman by day, so he ran to go get his firearm as a solution. His fast reaction can lead to some serious consequences. Murta is being psychologically tested before the Minas Gerais Football Federation decides on his punishment. I think this is crazy insane, I can't wait to hear what the final verdict is of this. If Murta is physiologically ill, does that make it okay that he pulled out a gun??
